Max B Sentenced To 75 Years In Prison
A Bergen County, NJ Superior Court judge sentenced Max B, born Charly Wingate, to 75 years in prison yesterday (September 3).
Max and his co-defendant Kevin Leerdam were convicted in June on charges of felony murder, kidnapping and armed robbery for planning and robbing Allan Plowden and David Taylor at a Holiday Inn in September of 2006. Taylor was murdered during the robbery, which was planned by Max's girlfriend Gina Conway. Conway later testified against Max and Leerdam a during their June trial. She is facing 18 years when she is sentenced. Max fired his attorney Gerald Saluti just before the sentenced was handed down. Saluti often used unorthodox methods such as making public statements on YouTube and conducting interviews with various websites while the trial was still on-going. Kevin Leerdam was sentenced to life plus 35 years for his role in the murder.
Max B rose to fame alongside fellow Harlem native Jim Jones after appearing on Jones 2005 album Harlem: A Diary Of Summer and signing with Jones' Byrd Gang Records.
At the time Max had just came home from an 8-year prison term for a robbery. The two eventually fell out because of financial disputes in following years and Max was released from his contract. Max hit the mixtape scene hard and frequently collaborated with French Montana before signing with Amalgam Digital. Preparations were underway for his debut album, Vigilante Season, when he was found guilty of the robbery and murder charges.
