Twista Storms The Charts With "Category F5"

The pride of Chicago, platinum-plus and Grammy-nominated hip-hop veteran Twista, has stirred up another unstoppable summer storm out of the Windy City, as his sixth studio album, Category F5, released last week on Get Money Gang Entertainment/EMI Label Services, enters the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart at #1, Top R&B Albums chart at #3 and the Top Overall Album chart at #8.

Twista's thoughts to the albums reception, "It really says something when you sell more independently than you do on a major label. I really have the fans, EMI and radio to thank for this great accomplishment in my career. Times are changing and I'm glad I chose to partner with EMI to help form a new business model that benefits all parties involved especially the artist."

The album's first single, Wetter, has proven to be a long-term hit since its digital release in late February. In its fifth month of release, the song is currently bulleted at #3 on the Urban mainstream radio airplay chart, and a #15 smash on the national Rhythmic-Crossover radio chart.

The success of Category F5 is also noteworthy for proving again the effectiveness of the full-service partnership between GMG Entertainment and EMI Label Services, which provides Get Money Gang Entertainment with promotion, press, on-line marketing, tour marketing and product management.

Dominic Pandiscia, Senior Vice President & General Manager EMI Label Services & Caroline Distribution, also commented on Twista's success, "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Twista. Our close partnership on this release has contributed greatly to its success and we look forward to continuing to expand the exposure of Category F5 to all music fans".

Twista's chart-topping debut marks EMI Label Services' fourth #1 debut in a row of an R&B/Hip-Hop album in the past year on an affiliated label, following Trina's Still Da Baddest, Ice Cube's Raw Footage and Bobby V.'s The Rebirth. GMG Entertainment is headed by Twista's manager Rawle Stewart and Henley Halem, the liaison between GMG and EMI.

Nas Ordered To Pay Kelis Spousal And Child Support

Looks like the former Mrs. Jones will be able to afford to keep it "bossy" after all.

According to the Associated Press, Kelis is set to receive a sizable sum in both spousal and child support payments from her estranged husband. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled Thursday (July 23) that Nas must pay Kelis approximately $44,000 a month in support and an additional $45,000 to pay for her legal costs and fees due to her forensic accountant.

The ruling is yet another blow for the Ether rapper who has suffered a string of misfortune in his private life ranging from the infidelity claims that followed the unexpected divorce filing last April to his alleged ill-timed appearance at a NY hospital which caused him to miss the birth of his son just recently. Overall, the core of Nas' personal nuisance is the clash between him and Kelis concerning their divorce proceedings which has turned bitter because of financial issues. In papers filed with the court, Kelis maintains that Nas "financially abandoned" her during her pregnancy. However, Nas' lawyer claims his client paid covered $30,000 in expenses toward the birth and maintained Kelis' health-insurance costs.

Fortunately for Nas, the court ruling is only temporary. The follow-up hearing is set for September 8 where it will be determined if the amount of monthly support paid to Kelis should be amended.

As of press time, representatives for Kelis' lawyer declined to comment or confirm the information. Nas has yet to comment on the family court ruling but it's almost certain he will appeal the ruling.

Ne-Yo Denies Making "Chris Brown Bash Song" For Rihanna

In spite of recent rumors to the contrary, Ne-Yo says he has no plans to help Rihanna with a "diss" track aimed at Chris Brown.
In an interview with MTV News, Ne-Yo confirmed he's been hitting the studio with the singing fashionista, but says he's steered clear of further promoting what happened between the former pair.

"I've done some stuff for Rihanna's (project)," he said. "I didn't really want to go there too much, because I know that's what everybody is expecting. I don't think there isn't a person alive that doesn't know what happened and what it was. I don't feel like it needs to be glorified. I don't think that needs to be a song that's sung or written."

Unnecessary publicity aside, Ne-Yo says he's also a friend a Brown and writing a song wouldn't sit well with him because of their bond.

"Chris Brown is a friend of mine, and I don't view him as a bad guy for what happened," he continued. "It was an absolute mistake, and he has some lessons to learn and some maturing to do. But I'm not gonna bash him for that. I'm not gonna turn my back on a person I call my friend because he made a mistake. (So) I can't write the Chris Brown bash song and then turn around and look myself in the mirror."

Wendy Williams Announces End Of Career In Radio

With her new show running five days a week on FOX, "The Queen of All Media" Wendy Williams says she is leaving her radio post at WBLS to focus on her new career in television.

After years of breaking Hollywood drama and putting the realm of urban gossip reporting on the map, Wendy says she will be throwing in the towel on her long-term career in radio.

"I want to tell all of my fans that after July 31st, I will no longer be doing a show with WBLS," Williams said. "I really was blessed to have a broadcast home in NY on radio for the past 7 years and I want to thank everyone who supported me. I have one of the best jobs in the world, making a difference in the lives of my fans made all the difference to me and I look forward to doing the same thing in my new role as a TV host. My hope is that you will do your best to find me on your remote so I can continue to entertain and inform you each and every day."

In recent years, Wendy Williams' radio show has been plagued by a host of behind-the-scenes issues including lawsuits, suspensions, and mass firings.

Despite their recently timultuous relationship with the radio star, WBLS says they are "saddened" by Wendy's departure.

"We are saddened to lose one of our most popular personalities," said Deon Levingston, Vice President and General Manager of WBLS. "But we understand what it requires to put a live show on television each and every day and wish Wendy all the best in this new venture."

Swizz Beatz Talks Ruff Ryders Reunion

During a recent interview with Jenny Boom Boom, super producer Swizz Beatz said he has been in the studio with DMX and he also talked about an upcoming Ruff Ryders reunion.

"Wait until y'all hear the finished product of DMX. We've taken it way to the next level and the whole double R movement from Eve to X, those are my main first priorities right now and I mean the music is coming out crazy... It's time for that, I told X like, 'You not gonna finish the legacy? Like, what we doing? I remember when people couldn't get on stage after you. Like, what are we doing?' It's a whole different team around him, like, X, he needs the right team around him and right now he's got the right team around him. The team around him when we was doing it real major, that team is around him again. So it's easier for me to communicate with him, find him, because all these 'Yes' people that were around him, they fans. You can't have no fans around him, you gotta have family around."

One of the first songs that will be released by Ruff Ryders will be the remix to the Jadakiss song Who's Real. While Kiss was on 106 & Park, he talked about the song which will feature The LOX, Eve, DMX and Drag-On.

"We got the Ruff Ryder, D-Block remix out. We got X on there, Eve, Drag-On, Styles P, Sheek Louch, we bringing it back. We bringing it back to that element baby! ... And yeah, yeah, the Big Bosses tour, me and my big homie Cam'ron coming to a venue near you real soon...Catalog is crazy right now. We got LOX album coming, Ruff Ryder compilation, new Sheek album, new Swizz album, new Kiss album. We getting it popping baby!"

Jay-Z To Debut Collabo Track With Rihanna & Kanye West

Jay-Z's highly anticipated new album The Blueprint 3 is currently in the works and after releasing the controversial song D.O.A. (Death Of Autotune), the Hip-Hop mogul is said to debut a collaboration track titled Run This Town featuring Rihanna and Kanye West anytime soon.

Radio station Hot 106 announced on their website, "New Jay-Z single coming this Friday [July 24] called Run This Town with Kanye West and Rihanna!" Hours later the post was deleted for unknown reasons.

Yo! Raps earlier reported, that Jigga is bringing Rihanna, Kid Cudi, and Drake along for the ride on The Blueprint 3. The rapper divulged to Reuters recently that Mr. Hudson, MGMT, and Kanye West will also join him.

Jay's latest effort is the third installment of the rapper's heralded Blueprint series after 2001's The Blueprint and 2002's The Blueprint: The Gift & The Curse. It is currently scheduled to be released on September 11.

Reportedly in order to avoid Internet leaks, the new album will be delivered personally by the rapper to his record label.

Michael Jackson Film To Sony For $60 Million?

Sony Pictures is in final negotiations to acquire the film that will be made out of Michael Jackson's rehearsal footage from the ill-fated This Is It concerts.

According to reports, the price for the project is $60 million, above initial projections reported elsewhere. Sony and AEG Live have announced that the film will be released on Friday, October 30. The split on the money is 90% to the Michael Jackson estate and 10% to AEG Live.

Furthermore it was reported by Billboard.com that Michael Jackson's father Joe Jackson's efforts in conjunction with promoter Leonard Rowe have "muddied the waters" in the Michael Jackson Estate and AEG's attempt to close a TV network deal for the presentation of the original This Is It production.

The This Is It special has been conceived as a tribute to Michael featuring Janet, The Jackson 5, and other major performers.

Papoose Takes Shots At Fat Joe

Remy Ma's better half Papoose took the stage at a concert last week to deliver a few barb-laced bars to Fat Joe.

Papoose let it all hang out when it came to Fat Joe while performing at a "Live From The Planet" event, even resorting to wishing for his apparent nemesis' death in place of pop icon Michael Jackson.

"Eh yo, check this out," Pap told the crowd. "R-I-P to Michael Jackson/I'm sad you had to go/Instead of you dying, it should have been Fat Joe ...I heard Fat Joe try to say he ain't get snuffed/Somebody put something in his mouth, my zipper's stuck...When he on-stage he don't get a lot of feedback...Even Fat Joe was forced to lean back."

Papoose and Joe were reportedly involved in a physical altercation, which Joe claims to have won, sometime last year.

"I don't have nothing to gain from putting out stories that I beat up Papoose," Joe told MTV in a previous interview. "Papoose, this is an approach he chose. He felt he was taking a negative and turning it into a positive, but in the long run, time tells the truth. Time will tell."

Although scarce on the details, Papoose also spoke on the scuffle with Joe in a 2008 interview with Sixshot saying, "What happens in the streets stays in the streets. It was definitely an altercation. I stood tall. Yes, I invited [Joe] for a fair [one-on-one fight], he refused. Yes, I put my hands on him. That's all I'm saying."

At press time, Joe had yet to respond to Papoose's attack.

Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 7/19/2009

The Black Eyed Peas still maintained a Top 5 spot with The E.N.D. [click to read] for the third straight week. Maxwell's Black Summer's Night moved from #1 to #2 in its second week, still scanning over six figures . The effort is the Neo-Soul singer's first in over eight years. The release was only eclipsed by the latest from chart-favorite Daughtry.

Joe's latest, Signature, debuted one spot better than his last album, released less than a year ago. The BMG Records veteran, still with mentor Kedar Massenberg, sold just under 50,000 units on a project that includes a Marvin Gaye tribute.

Chicago veteran Twista impressed the charts with a Top 10 debut. Category F5 marks the fast-rapper's arrival at EMI Records, his return to a major label, after a public falling out with Atlantic two years ago. The effort's digital release on iTunes, includes a Kanye West-produced and featuring bonus song ["Alright" , in addition to a large reunion with longtime production partner The Legendary Traxster.

Eminem's Relapse slipped out of Top 10 this week. The Aftermath effort is still promised to be the first, as 50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct and Dr. Dre's Detox are on deck respectively.

C-Murder Denied Trial Postponement Request

Early this week, Judge Hans Liljeberg of the 24th Judicial District Court denied Corey “C-Murder” Miller and his prosecutors postponement request made earlier this month.

The postponement request was made because Juan Flowers, a man currently serving life in prison, claims that he is the one who killed 16-year-old Steve Thomas in 2002.

Since the postponement request was denied prosecutors will only have two weeks to investigate Flowers’ claims. Prosecutors were also hoping to investigate whether or not obstruction of justice or witness tampering were involved.

"This is, in fact, a key issue in the trial," Assistant District Attorney David Wolff explained to Judge Liljeberg.

C-Murder’s trial has already been postponed twice and Judge Liljeberg was ready to begin the trial in January before it was postponed.

"I wanted to go to trial with it that Monday [January 12]," said Judge Liljeberg.

For seven years C-Murder has awaited trail for the 2002 murder of Steve Thomas at a nightclub and he faces life in prison if convicted. Jury selection for the trial is expected to begin on August 3.

Jay-Z Dismisses Game

Fans awaiting a response from Jay-Z towards West Coast rapper The Game need not hold their breath.

Game, who has been ridiculing Jay-Z about his age amongst other things throughout his European tour, has released a diss record targeted at the New York rapper.

Jay however doesn't plan on responding as he says he hears the age discussion all the time.

"I hear it all the time -- 'Yo, he should let the young guys, the new generation of guys come in.' But you don't become the front-runner in music because someone lets you. You have to claim your shoes," Jay-Z is quoted as saying during an interview with Reuters.

"If you grow up listening to hip-hop, you love hip-hop and that's the end of it.

But if you're a 30-year-old rapper still trying to make music like you're 15, then you're making it narrow. At my age, I can't relate to a 15-year-old.

I deal with mature and relevant topics for my age group -- it has to all be based on true emotions. The more diversity and the more mature we make hip-hop, the bigger the net you cast."

Jay-Z's Blue Print 3 is slated to hit stores on Friday, September 11th, 2009.

Big Boi Makes Move From Jive To Def Jam

OutKast's Big Boi is taking his musical destiny into his own hands and making the move from Jive Records to Def Jam Recordings.
In an interview with Toronto's Eye Weekly, Big Boi said the only thing standing in his way is the legal paperwork.

"The lawyers just have to finish their lawyering," he said.

Once the legalities are finalized, Big Boi will be releasing his much-delayed album Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.

Things have come full circle for OutKast and Def Jam's L.A. Reid, as it was Reid who originally signed the duo to LaFace back in 1992.

"He's been with us since the beginning," he said.

Big Boi's Sir Luscious Left Foot was scheduled to hit stores last year, but was delayed several times.

"Jive Records, man," Big Boi told Rolling Stone about the album earlier this year. "You know what goes with Jive? Shuckin' and jivin'. And the fans have been thinking it's me and Dre. You can't work on music for two-plus years and just give it to a label and they just f*ck it up."

Big Boi is currently making his rounds on the Rock the Bells tour and will soon be announcing a release date for the project.

Remy Ma Pens Another Letter, Slams The Media

In a recent letter from behind the bars of Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women rapper Remy Ma let loose on the media for what she considers irresponsible reporting.
Although she failed to reveal a direct target for her anger, the former first lady of Terror Squad explained her issues with the modern media in a letter posted to Global Grind.

"I used to be one of those people that watched the news and bought the newspaper everyday and believed that everything that I was seeing and reading was true; up until the point where I ended up in their reports in a negative light," she wrote. "Now I only read the papers for the horoscopes and the comics and I only watch the news for the lottery numbers. They couldn't even get my name or age right, more less the color of my vehicle that was right behind them parked in front of the precinct. Many reporters get their information at 4th, 3rd, 2nd hand at best. They're at liberty to word a headline however they see fit in order to sell the highest number of papers but rarely do they take a moment to stop and think that this is someone's life that they're tampering with, someone with a family, someone that might have children."

Remy's husband, rapper Papoose, also recently addressed the media regarding his wife's condition and his own personal issues with the New York Post and their reports that he caused a prison riot.

"Remy, she's maintaining and she's getting through it," Pap explained in an interview with Jenny Boom Boom. "I visit her every other day at this point and kids want autographs from both of us. In the beginning I was there everyday, but I got a lot of things to maintain out here so I'm there every other day. Yup [we're married.]...[The wedding] was the best it could possibly be. It's something that I'm proud of and we're gonna stick by each other...Her son is good money, he's maintaining. He goes to see her from time to time...We're just teaching him the right things, letting him know his mother is gonna be out here soon...Dudes really don't hold females down when it comes to these situations. Real people do real things, I do it from the heart...[The Rikers Island rumors] is the New York Post once again taking shots at me. I mean it's true I went there to do a show, I went to Rikers Island before for an inmate, when I went there, it was smooth, the inmates had a good time, nothing happened...I would have been arrested if that happened."

Remy Ma is currently serving an 8 year sentence for the shooting of a friend. She was sentenced in May 2008.

G-Unit's Tony Yayo Doesn't Accept The Game's Apology

G-Unit underboss Tony Yayo recently told MTV that he's not accepting Game's apology and he is speaking on behalf of his crew when he says that.

"He said in that interview he might feel a different way the next day. Game is bipolar. One day he's this way, the next day he's the next. When you got a group like G-Unit ... we sold millions of records, we got a lot of egos. From Buck and Game, I think they just gotta learn how to control them egos. In their eyes, to me, they got jealous of 50. They'll say, 'Yayo is up under 50's ass.' Or 'He's 50's yes-man.' It's not that -- I don't have any hate in my heart towards anybody. I don't have hate in my heart towards Game or Buck. But when we built a brand, G-Unit was selling millions of records like he said -- yeah, we was the Beatles."

Yayo said he understood why Game and Buck would leave the unit and admitted if he went solo he would receive more press than he does with 50, but he maintained he would never do so out of loyalty. Yayo is one of the original members of G-Unit and has been with 50 since his rise on the mixtape scene prior to Get Rich Or Die Tryin'.

"Let me keep it real. You're either gonna be down with 50 and be below him a little bit ... but you're still travelling the world. I just came back from Ireland, Switzerland and Turkey. So I don't care what nobody says, or you could go against him and get more publicity. Buck and Game, when they went against 50, they got way more publicity. Way more people wanna interview them and know what the beef's with 50. So they gain more interest than me."

"If I was to flip on 50 today, it would get me more media than me being down with him. But I'm not a snake. So Game started the 'G-Unot' thing, tried to hurt the brand. C'mon, people respect the movement. They respect when they see guys from the 'hood who came from the 'hood -- started out with nothing, now got something, not knock each other when we get to the point where we all got money, houses, cars, kids, bills," Yayo added.

Kelis Claims Nas Is Holding Out On Money

Despite Nas' claims of sending money to Kelis to prepare for the upcoming birth of their child, the singer says she still has yet to receive a significant amount.
In paperwork filed with the court on Tuesday (July 14), Kelis claims she hasn't received what Nas is claiming.

"Divorce in April 2009. He has provided me with only a $350 check and $2,500 in gift cards since that date approximately three months ago," a court document reads. "I declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of California that the foregoing is true and correct. Executed this 14th day of July, 2009, at New York, New York. Kelis Rogers."

Kelis' claims were in response to documents filed by Nas claiming he only received $4 million for his Def Jam record deal, not $11 million.

"I did not receive even half that amount," he said.

As previously reported, Nas said he only brings in $147,165 a month and agreed to pay $350 for a stroller, $450 for a baby sling, and $1,598 for a crib.

Yo! Raps will keep you posted as more details emerge.

C-Murder Associate Confesses To Fatal Shooting

An incarcerated friend of C-Murder (born Corey Miller) has admitted to the fatal shooting of the teenager for which the rapper is currently facing murder charges.
Miller's friend, Juan Flowers, has reportedly told authorities that although he is the one who pulled the trigger, neither him or the rapper are responsible for the murder of 16-year-old Steve Thomas.

Flowers is also currently in jail, serving a life sentence for an unrelated murder in Georgia.

His admission comes just weeks before Miller is set to be retried for Thomas' murder.

In an effort to save his client's freedom, Miller's attorney, Ron Rakosky, is requesting Flowers be transported from Georgia to testify at his trial, says NOLA News.

"Juan Edwin Flowers has stated under oath that it was he who fired the shot which killed Steve Thomas," Rakosky wrote in his request. "His testimony is therefore relevant and he is a material witness."

Miller was convicted of the homicide in 2003, but the ruling was overturned because of alleged prosecutorial misconduct.

If convicted, Miller is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Papoose Talks Remy Ma Marriage, Prison Riot Rumors

n a recent interview with Jenny Boom Boom, rapper Papoose confirmed his marriage to incarcerated femcee Remy Ma and pledged his support during her toughest times.

In addition to dropping the marriage bomb, Papoose also gave fans an update on Remy's son and spoke to the New York Post rumors that he incited prison gang violence with a Rikers Island performance.

"Remy, she's maintaining and she's getting through it," Pap explained in the interview. I mean it's true I went there to do a show, I went to Rikers Island before for an inmate, when I went there, it was smooth, the inmates had a good time, nothing happened...I would have been arrested if that happened."

As previously reported by Yo! Raps, Remy Ma was also the subject of headlines for a recently penned letter to fans.

"I always find myself thinking about what I was doing a year ago, two years ago, five years ago today," she wrote in a letter posted to GlobalGrind.com. "I never remember exactly where till I find myself imagining where I would be today. I rarely listen to the radio because it's sort of depressing. Not being able to record is stressful not because I'm a rapper but because that was my way of venting and expressing myself. So I write a lot! So much that now I have a callous on my finger from holding a pen. I guess I got used to texting my rhymes! ...Everyone in prison isn't innocent but everyone in prison isn't guilty. So whether you end up here on purpose or by accident, the pain you're feeling is still the same. And I can quote a lot "gangsters" by saying that "I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy..."

Remy is currently serving an eight year sentence in connection with the shooting of a friend.

Akon's Ex Tracking Him Down For Child Support

Akon's ex and mother of his child, Sara Coleman, has reportedly been trying to track the singer down to serve him with papers requesting child support.
According to TMZ, Akon has been so elusive that Coleman's lawyer even resorted to showing up at Michael Jackson's memorial to serve him.

Sources are saying the paternity of the child was called into question, but Akon took a paternity test that confirmed his status as the biological father.

The baby is now 6 months old.

Although Coleman claims Akon has been ducking out on his responsibilities, the singer maintains he's been doing anything but.

"Akon has taken responsibility and has been extremely cooperative and proactive in handling this private matter," Akon's attorney said in a statement. "Paternity was only established just over 30 days ago. Since the case was filed outside of Georgia jurisdiction, where he is a legal resident, Akon is currently in the process of engaging counsel in California and will continue to handle this matter in a timely manner."

Michael Jackson Fans Overwhelm Website For Memorial Tickets

Enthusiastic fans visited the website of the Los Angeles Staples Center in droves of 120,000 people-per-second for their chance to snatch up free tickets to Michael Jackson's memorial.

The rush of people began Friday morning after a press conference announcing fans could register for free tickets for tomorrow's tribute via the site.

In a true testament to Michael Jackson's star power, over 500 million people had visited the website within the first 90 minutes the tickets became available.

The site subsequently crashed a few times and an additional server had to be employed to accommodate the amount of traffic.

Registration for the tickets closed on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the 8,000 winners were announced yesterday (July 5).

The thousands of fans will converge at the Los Angeles Staples Center and Nokia Theatre on Tuesday, July 7.
